Foam Insulation in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Stillwater

Spray Foam Insulation for the Stillwater, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa areas

What Is Spray Foam Insulation?

Spray foam – Liquid polyurethane is mixed with millions of tiny, inert cells that can be left spongy (open cell foam) or completely closed for a denser fit around every space (closed cell foam).  Temperatures cannot transfer in or out of the home or building. Every crack and cranny is completely sealed. All foam insulation is Energy Star Certified.  When you need an energy-efficient seal to create a barrier between inside and outside your home or building, foam insulation is the most energy efficient solution you’re looking for. With the ability to saving up to 70% on your energy bills, spray foam insulation is the most efficient insulation availablein Oklahoma.

How Does Foam Insulation Work?

Click on our link here to watch how spray foam is installed.  Spray foam insulation is installed on your walls and on the rafters of your roof. It is applied as a liquid, sprayed onto the surfaces it will be insulating.  Once it makes contact, it begins to expand and harden. It seeps into every crack and crevice and fills the entire area. Other types of insulation fill the areas between walls and in attics, but only spray foam can get into the tiny areas that cause energy loss. Guaranteed to lower your energy bills.

Why Spray Foam Insulation is Better

Blown in insulation is a great and budget-friendly option for insulating your home, but the results of foam insulation far surpass it in R-Value.  The higher R-Value you have in your building, the bigger reduction you’ll see in your energy bills.

  • Open Cell Foam has an R-Value of R-10 per inch when compared to fiberglass and factoring in its sealing abilities, conduction, and convection.  Chemical R-Value of 3 to 4 per inch.
  • Closed Cell Foam has an R-Value of 10 per half inch when compared to that of fiberglass and you factor in sealing, conduction, and convection.  Chemical R-Value of 6 to 7 per inch.
  • Blown fiberglass has an R-Value of 2 to 4 per inch.

Additionally, polyurethane foam insulation adds to the stability and protection of your home. When it dries and becomes solid, it adds to the strength of your walls. It is resistant to mold, insects and wood rot, so it protects your commercial or residential property from some of the most common problems owners face. Whether we install foam insulation in your home or building, one result everyone can appreciate is sound reduction. The extreme density of the foam makes it difficult for sound to penetrate into your building. In a commercial setting, this is an invaluable benefit. A quiet environment can greatly increase productivity of employees. At home, being able to shut off the noise of the outside world and relax is priceless.

The Difference between Open Cell Spray Foam Insulation and Closed Cell Spray Foam Insulation

There are two varieties of foam insulation, open and closed cell. There are benefits to each type. They shouldn’t be used interchangeably, so we’ll perform our free inspection and recommend which type would be optimal for your intended use. The main difference between the two types of foam comes from how they dry. It has millions of tiny cells that are filled with gas. These cells either remain partially open or completely closed.

  • Open cell – Because the air pockets don’t close all the way, this type of insulation is more lightweight. It is very effective as a noise buffer. Because it is somewhat porous, open cell foam insulation is suitable for indoor use only.  Open cell foam is primarily used in residential construction.  The open cell foam can be installed in the walls of new construction homes, as well as in the attic of new and existing homes.  Because open cell is only semi-rigid, it must be installed where it cannot be damaged such as in attics or behind dry wall.  Open cell is usually sprayed 4 inches thick in the walls and 5 to 6 inches in the attic.

  • Closed cell – Its density makes it the most efficient insulation on the market. It offers exceptional barriers from air and moisture. Because it protects against moisture penetration, it is also a viable option for outdoor use, such as in commercial roofing.  It is usually used in barns and other commercial buildings.  Because closed cell is completely rigid, it can be installed anywhere, walls or roof.  A typical building installed with closed cell foam will have 1.5 to 2 inches on the walls and 2 to 3 inches on the roof.

  • Hybrid - Interested in putting closed cell insulation in your residential project?  Ask us about installing a hybrid system in your walls.  Closed cell foam will be installed 1.5 inches in the walls then a Blow In Blanket, or BIB, is stapled to the face of the 2x6's.  Finally, blow in fiberglass insulation is blown into each stud gap, filling the remaining space between the foam and the BIB.  This type of install is the most energy efficient type of installation, proving to have the highest R-Value (R-45) and best sound barrier on the market.  It is important to note that this can only be done on the walls of a new construction building with 2x6's.
